Description: Windows Embedded Handheld is the platform OS solution to power enterprise handheld devices that run critical Line-of-Business applications, enable efficient data input, and connect securely to existing enterprise infrastructure. The first release, Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5, includes two new SKUs built on Windows Mobile 6.5 to provide the application compatibility, device security and management capabilities, flexibility, and enterprise support lifecycle needed for enterprise handheld devices. Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 is based on Windows Mobile 6.5 and includes a consistent SDK and set of APIs between the two platforms to provide application compatibility. Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 and Windows Mobile 6.5 also share the same application development environment, with support for native and managed code (WinForms) applications. This provides developers familiar tools like Visual Studio 2008 and the .NET Compact Framework 3.5, so they can leverage their existing knowledge and skills to speed solutions and devices to market. Device management and security are also critical in an enterprise setting. Devices running Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 are able to integrate with existing security and device management solutions like System Center Configuration Manager, Microsoft Exchange server and other 3rd Party solutions. Additionally, by building on Windows Mobile 6.5, Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 is supported by a large community of independent software and hardware vendors that can supply off-the-shelf and custom solutions to meet any business need. This community also has a deep knowledge base accessible through the Windows Embedded Partner Program (WEPP) to help with design and development efforts. There are two versions of Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 to choose from: Professional and Classic. Both provide touchscreen support and the same application platform to meet the needs of your enterprise, however cellular connectivity is included in the Professional SKU only. |
